Men identified after shoplifting incident in Bishop Auckland

It took place in the King Street area of South Shields earlier today (January 17) when two officers on duty spotted a man around 12.35pm, Northumbria Police said.

They approached the man, who then reportedly assaulted one of the officers with a blade, causing cuts to his face.

The officer was taken to hospital to be checked over with injuries that are thankfully believed to be minor.

The man – aged 25 – was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, and remains in police custody at this time.
