Man fighting for life after Paisley demolition site incident

The man was discovered at the site of the Waverley Road demolition works this morning and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

A man is fighting for his life in hospital following a major incident at a demolition site in Paisley. Emergency services were alerted to reports of an injured man on Waverley Road in the Foxbar area of the town on Friday morning.

Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sped to the scene shortly after 9am. A trauma team including three ambulances, three fire engines and dozens of police officers were dispatched.

Crews descended on the street and a 36-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where his condition is described as critical. Officers said an investigation is ongoing, and that the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

A police cordon was put in place around the scene following the incident, with the public being asked to avoid the area. Photos taken at the scene this morning show blue-lit fire engines, ambulances, and police vehicles parked on the street near the on-going demolition works while personnel in hard hats and high vis jackets swarm the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers and emergency services were called to a demolition site on Waverley Road in Paisley on Friday, January 9, 2026 after a man was injured. The 36-year-old was taken to hospital where hospital staff describe his condition as critical.

“An investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed. A cordon remains in place and the public should avoid the area.”

A SAS spokesperson said: “We received a call today to attend an incident on Waverley Road in Paisley. We dispatched one ambulance, our trauma team and our special operations team to the scene.

“We transported one male patient to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”
