Man in hospital after incident on York outer ring road
North Yorkshire Police said a man sustained a leg injury while attempting to evade its officers near the Great North Way and Millfield Lane roundabout shortly before 2am on Monday (November 24).
The force said the man was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment for injuries which are not life-threatening or life-changing.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the force has informed the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, and its own professional standards department about the incident “in line with standard procedure”.
The spokesperson said the police investigation is ongoing “and we ask people not to speculate while enquiries continue”.
They said the officers “attempted to speak to a man who was riding a bicycle near the Great North Way and Millfield Lane roundabout in York. However, as he tried to evade them, he sustained a leg injury.”
As The Press has reported, the road was closed while investigators worked at the scene and reopened at 10.45am.
Police shut the outer ring road between the Great North Way roundabout and the A19 roundabout.
Traffic coming out of York was backing up on the A59 Boroughbridge Road and the A19 Shipton Road, with severe delays as far back as Clifton at Water Lane.
