WARNING: DITRESSING CONTENT. The family of Kevin Bacon will have their Christmas forever tainted by tragedy after Mark Latunski lured his Grindr date into his home and murdered him.
A twister killer will spend the rest of his life in prison after luring his date into his home on Christmas Eve, murdering him, and eating his genitals.
Kevin Bacon, 25, was reported missing on December 25, 2019 when he didn’t come home for a festive family breakfast. When Kevin’s family grew more concerned, his roommate revealed that he had gone to meet a man from Grindr the night before.
This led investigators to the home of Mark Latunski, where they were met with an appalling scene. Officers found Kevin had been brutally murdered, with his naked body hanging upside down from the ceiling in a hidden room.
But that wasn’t the only thing they discovered after walking into the house of horrors. Latunksi, 53, of Michigan, US, later admitted to police that he stabbed Kevin, slit his throat, and then hung him with a rope from the rafters.
He also said he cut off a portion of his genitalia and ate it, court documents show. Kevin’s father, Karl Bacon, told local media: “He obviously got into something he wasn’t prepared for. We all make mistakes. It’s gut-wrenching to hear the details, and we’re just beside ourselves.”
Latunski had been on police’s radar for months before the killing, and according to The Washington Post, some of Latunksi’s other Grindr dates had previously fled his home during “basement bondage sessions,” reports the Mirror.
One date hopped a fence in the middle of the night and rang 911, telling police of leather ankle straps and a chain used to restrain him. Another man ran from Latunksi’s home wearing just a leather kilt and was chased by the the murderer, who told cops that he just wanted his clothing back.
Both men declined to press charges against Latunski, according to police. They said that their sexual activities with him were consensual and that they had simply became “spooked”.
The killer eventually pleaded guilty to murder and mutilation of a body in September 2022, just weeks before his jury trial was set to begin. He entered the plea in a Shiawassee County court nearly three years after the death of Kevin, reportedly against the advice of his lawyers.
Before to his sentencing on 15 December 2022, a statement from Kevin’s heartbroken mother Pamela was read aloud to the court.
“Our world has been shattered,” it read. “Even though we have such great memories of our son, our lives will never be the same or will our family. I don’t understand why anyone could want to hurt our son, especially in such a horrific and unbelievable way.
“Now Christmas for our family will never be the same to us, thanks to you taking our son away from us. Even though we will finally get justice for Kevin, it still doesn’t feel like enough, and you still get to live and do things because a pig like you … can never have remorse.
“In your sick, twisted mind, you probably think you didn’t do anything wrong, but in reality, you took our world away,” the statement continued. “This Christmas I hope you suffer like we have. I hope you feel pain because you are all alone with all the years yet to come.”
A Shiawassee County judge sentenced Latunski to life in prison without the possibility of parole on a first-degree murder charge. He was also sentenced to 11 months to be served concurrently on a charge of disinterment and mutilation of a dead body.
