A man has suffered “life-changing injuries” after being shot in the legs in what police have confirmed was a “targeted” drive-by shooting.
Armed officers, along with several patrol cars and two police vans, cordoned off an area of Luck Lane in Paddock, Huddersfield, on Tuesday (December 23) following reports of gunfire.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed a single casualty had suffered “life-changing injuries” in the incident, which was consistent with gunshot wounds. A dark-coloured vehicle had reportedly fled the scene, according to eyewitnesses nearby, while an air ambulance landed at a nearby secondary school.
Officers have confirmed a search is underway to find those responsible for the attack, which is understood to be deliberate, and have asked for any witnesses or residents with information to come forward and help the investigation.
“At 7.28pm yesterday (Tuesday, December 23), police received a report of someone being shot in Luck Lane in the Paddock area of Huddersfield. It was reported that a man had suffered a leg injury and a dark-coloured vehicle had driven off,” the police service explained in a statement.
“Armed officers were deployed to the scene and the injured man was taken to hospital, where he was found to have suffered serious leg injuries which were later found to be consistent with the discharge of a firearm. His injuries are believed to be life-changing.
“A large scene remains in place this morning as officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team carry out further enquiries into this incident, which is being treated as a targeted attack.
