Man suffers serious injuries in bin lorry crash

Police are appealing for information following the crash.

A man suffered serious injuries after a crash involving a bin lorry. Emergency services were called to a crash in Vermuyden Gardens in Sutton just before 9am on Thursday (January 22).

The crash involved a bin lorry and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 50s from Ely, was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The bin lorry driver, a 62-year-old man from East Cambridgeshire, was interviewed at the scene and is helping officers with the investigation. A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “The collision took place in Vermuyden Gardens at just before 9am yesterday, and the victim, a 50-year-old man from Ely, was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

“The driver of the bin lorry, a 62-year-old man from East Cambridgeshire, was interviewed at the scene and is helping officers with their enquiries.” Police are appealing for information.

Anyone with information, including dashcam and doorbell footage, should call police on 101 and quote incident 68 of January 22. Alternatively, people can report it online.
