Police said this was a ‘terrifying’ ordeal for the victim

A man has been jailed after threatening to stab his former partner with a needle causing her to fear for her life. Viktoras Mankus, 56, got into a verbal argument with the victim at the house they shared together in Bassingbourn in South Cambridgeshire, in October 2025.

The argument quickly escalated when Mankus, who is a type two diabetic, grabbed a needle filled with insulin off the kitchen table and threatened to stab the victim with it. The victim feared for her life and ran upstairs, locking herself in a bedroom and calling the police. She stayed there until officers arrived and arrested Mankus.

He denied common assault but was found guilty following a trial, and on Thursday (22 January) at Peterborough Crown Court, was jailed for five and a half months. The offence activated a suspended sentence which had been imposed in June 2025 after Mankus, of North End, Bassingbourn, pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation on the victim.

DC Valentin Radulescu, who investigated, said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim. Threatening someone with violence using a needle, especially in the context of ongoing abuse, is utterly unacceptable.

“Mankus has shown a clear disregard for the suspended sentence he was previously given, so I am pleased he is now behind bars.”
