Ruben Amorim has been full of praise for one Manchester United player

Ruben Amorim is thrilled by Mason Mount‘s Manchester United revival following a difficult beginning to his Old Trafford journey. The midfielder has been in fine goal-scoring form with two strikes in his previous three outings, as United climbed to sixth in the Premier League table after their commanding 4-1 victory over Wolves.

Amorim was effusive in his praise for the Englishman following his display at Molineux, commenting: “He can defend, he can attack, is really the quality that when he touched the ball is really good. So it’s not a surprise for me, but of course, we need to take care of him.”

Alongside Mount’s return to prominence, United remain embroiled in discussions regarding a pivotal summer choice as the MEN examines the latest developments around Old Trafford.

£60m star Mount delivers statement

It’s been quite the professional renaissance for Mason Mount following an injury-ravaged opening two campaigns at Old Trafford. The former Chelsea playmaker, who set United back £60m during the summer of 2023, had managed merely 31 league outings for United before the 2025/26 season commenced.

However, Mount has delivered an unmistakable statement to his manager that he has overcome his fitness struggles and is prepared to become one of his undroppable players – and justify his hefty transfer fee.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

The 26-year-old is once more contributing goals to his repertoire. He most recently found the net in United’s 4-1 thrashing of Wolves on Monday, Mount’s increasing significance to the team makes for interesting analysis.

In the seven league games he’s started this season, United have emerged victorious in five, drawing one and losing one. In contrast, in the six matches where he was brought on as a substitute, United only managed two wins, three draws and suffered one loss.

With United earning an average of 2.3 points per game when Mount starts, hypothetically, they would be leading the table with 34 points if he had been in the starting line-up for all 15 matches.

Summer friendly discussions

A rerun of Manchester United’s 2023 pre-season match against Wrexham could potentially be on the horizon for next summer. As reported by Mail Sport, the two clubs are said to be in talks about a potential fixture in Europe.

If an agreement on the friendly is reached, it is anticipated to take place in Scandinavia due to the significant fan base both clubs enjoy in that region. However, nothing has been confirmed yet as the clubs need to plan their pre-season schedules around next year’s World Cup, which will be hosted in North America.

Their initial encounter was a heated affair, with Wrexham emerging as 3-1 victors against a youthful United side. Dan Gore was shown a red card in the second half, while Paul Mullin sustained a punctured lung and broken ribs following a challenge from goalkeeper Nathan Bishop, who later apologised to the striker.
