With the African Cup of Nations around the corner, Man United will be looking to secure all three points as they prepare for a festive period without their key players

For the second consecutive Monday, Manchester United will close out the latest Premier League gameweek, this time welcoming Bournemouth to Old Trafford. Last Monday, the Red Devils cruised past bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Bournemouth’s struggles continued with a goalless draw against Chelsea.

When Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalized for winless Wolves at Molineux, United fans may have feared another disappointing result against a side threatening to become one of the league’s worst ever. However, Bruno Fernandes led by example, inspiring United to a commanding 4-1 victory. The Portuguese star found the net twice, assisted Mason Mount, and Bryan Mbeumo also got on the scoresheet in what could be his final club appearance of 2025.

Having lost just one of their last nine matches and picking up seven points from their last three games, United’s faith in manager Ruben Amorim appears to be paying off. The former Sporting Lisbon boss has guided his team into the Premier League’s top six. Over their last nine fixtures, United have collected 18 points—more than they managed in their previous 17 matches—though consistency at Old Trafford remains elusive. After a run of four straight home wins from late August to late October, United have now gone two home games without a victory and have conceded in 14 of their 15 league games this season.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, matched United’s clean sheet tally for the season with their draw against Chelsea in gameweek 15—a result that, while respectable against the Club World Cup holders, did little to end their winless streak. Since defeating Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the end of October, the Cherries have failed to win any of their last six top-flight matches, earning just two points from a possible 18. This poor run has seen them slip into the bottom half of the table, largely due to a decline in attacking output. On Monday, Bournemouth risk failing to score in three consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since the 2022-23 season.

Once a nightmare for opposition defences, the highly sought-after Antoine Semenyo has now gone seven league games without a goal or assist, perhaps distracted by ongoing transfer speculation. His dip in form has coincided with Bournemouth’s slide down the standings. Nevertheless, the Cherries have remarkably beaten United 3-0 at Old Trafford in each of the last two Premier League seasons, contributing to a four-match unbeaten streak against the Red Devils in the competition.

Man United vs Bournemouth Team News

This match clashes with the mandatory release date for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) but Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast), Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon), and Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco) have not yet been ruled out of Monday’s match. The same is true for Benjamin Sesko, who is recovering from a recent bout of food poisoning after a knee injury, but Matthijs de Ligt (back) and Harry Maguire (hamstring) remain unavailable for Manchester United.

Nineteen-year-old Ayden Heaven made his second consecutive Premier League start in De Ligt’s absence against Wolves, and the former Arsenal youth player has likely done enough to keep his place on Monday, provided Lisandro Martinez is still not fit to start.

On the Bournemouth side, manager Andoni Iraola was forced to substitute Marcos Senesi in the 62nd minute of last weekend’s draw with Chelsea, but he is optimistic that the Argentine was only suffering from cramp and should be available for Monday’s game. Senesi’s presence will be particularly important, as fellow defender Veljko Milosavljevic is sidelined for two to three months with a knee ligament injury, joining Ryan Christie (knee) and Ben-Gannon Doak (hamstring) on the injury list.

Lewis Cook will serve the final match of his three-game suspension on Monday night, but Tyler Adams is available again after serving a one-match ban for yellow card accumulation and is expected to return to the midfield.
