A 25-year-old man has been left feeling lost in life after discovering he could have a twin brother living just minutes away from his house – and it almost caused the end of his marriage
A man has been left gobsmacked after discovering he has a secret twin brother living just minutes away from his home. The 25-year-old explained how he spent his early years in foster care before being adopted by a loving family at around five years of age.
He describes his childhood as “completely normal” and says his parents couldn’t have done more for him, welcoming him into their family with open arms. He wrote on Reddit: “I spent the first four years of my life in the care system. Luckily, I have very few memories of this time and there’s been no lasting trauma.
“At the age of four, I was taken in by the Roberts – a husband and wife who would take presents to the children’s home every Christmas (something they still do). By the time I was five, they had officially adopted me.
“From here on, they’ll be referred to as Mam, 60, and Dad, 60. I experienced a completely normal, upper-middle-class upbringing. I grew up in Cardiff. Mam owned a chain of salons around South Wales, and Dad wore a suit to work every day.
“I was blessed with two wonderful older sisters, Claire, 42, and Sally, 40, who completely doted on me.”
As a teenager, he spent a lot of time at a boxing club and even considered a career in the sport, but his dad encouraged him to go to university instead.
While at the boxing club, he developed a crush on the coach’s daughter, Chloe – who he would go on to marry years later.
He continued: “Chloe and I were at the gym. I would’ve been about 15 at the time, and she’d had enough of my wind-ups and demanded we get in the ring.
“I agreed, saying I’d keep my hands behind my back, and if she could land a punch within a minute I’d stop teasing her. If she couldn’t, she’d let me take her out.
“Well, I danced around for 60 seconds without her laying a hand on me. Just as the timer rang to signal the minute was up, she landed a right hook that Mike Tyson would’ve been proud of.
“Nose bleeding and pride hurt, I got to my feet. She approached, wiped the blood away, then kissed me softly on the lips.
“Ten years later, we’ve been married for three years and have twins, Seren and Llew, both two. I love her with all my heart.”
However, things recently took a dramatic turn when he returned home from work to find Chloe, now 26, crying upstairs in their bedroom.
Confused, he asked what was wrong – only for her to accuse him of cheating.
He said: “On Friday last week, I came home to absolute silence. No toddlers running around my feet, no music, no TV – just silence.
“I opened the door and saw Chloe crying into her pillow. I called her name and when she looked up, her eyes were red and swollen from crying.
“I asked what was wrong, but before I could say another word she hit me with one of those right hooks she’d caught me with 10 years ago.
“She began screaming, telling me she’d seen me and that I knew what I’d done. I managed to calm her down and asked her to explain. She pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of me sitting at a cafe with another woman – then another photo of me kissing her.
“I was dumbfounded. The man in the picture was identical to me – my complete double in every feature.
“I logged into the CCTV from my workplace, which clearly showed I’d been on site all day.”
After apologising for hitting him, Chloe’s expression changed as she said: “You’re adopted. What if you have a twin? We’ve got twins – and it can be hereditary.”
He added: “Honestly, that question has stayed with me ever since. I’ve always had such a great relationship with my family that I never put much thought into my biological parents or possible siblings. For the first time in my life, I feel slightly lost.”
