The Duchess of Sussex seemed to take a thinly veiled swipe at Kate Middleton during her Christmas special on Netflix while filming a segment with her friends
Meghan Markle seemingly made a subtle dig towards the Princess of Wales during the Christmas special of her Netflix series. With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration aired on the same day that the King and Queen hosted the German state visit, just hours after the Princess of Wales shared a personal letter with guests attending her annual carol concert on Friday.
Meghan, who is estranged from her father and has made numerous allegations against the royal family since stepping back from royal duties, shared that she loves Christmas trees, advent calendars and Yuletide wreaths. She explained that trees allow you to “really encapsulate your family story, really feel the passage of time and the different chapters of your life through the ornaments.”
While she donned matching festive red pyjamas with her friends and crafted handmade, personalised crackers, there was a moment during the one-off episode which appeared to take a subtle dig at Princess Catherine’s fashion choices.
During one segment of the special, Meghan’s best friends, Lindsay Jill Roth and Kelly Zajfen come over and visited her house. As they made Christmas wreaths, one of the Duchess’s friends asked: “Aren’t bows in right now?”
The Duchess replied with a hint of coyness: “That’s what you told me…”
Ms Roth then said to Meghan: “I like how loose yours is. That looks great.” To which Meghan replied: “Well it’s just the beginning,” with Roth adding: “Yeah, but it’s fun.”
The Princess of Wales is recognised for wearing bows, especially during the Christmas period, the Express reports. This year, she wore a bow in her hair or on her outfits for several engagements, including during Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK in September.
Last year she charmed the UK when she and her daughter, Princess Charlotte, both wore bows at the Princess’s Christmas Carol concert.
Additionally during another segment of Meghan’s Christmas special, which was titled Tips and Tricks for Festive Wrapping, Meghan recommends folding “outwardly” rather than “inwardly”.
She explains: “One technique that’s really fun is just the different way in which you’re folding the paper. If you fold it outwardly instead of inwardly, it creates a different world there.”
The Duchess takes seconds doing the method, as she added: “A little bow right there could be awfully darling.”
The Christmas special comes after the first two seasons of With Love, Meghan, which received harsh reviews, and follows the Sussexes’ signing of a new, scaled-back first-look deal with the streaming giant in August.
It comes after the news of Meghan’s father health. According to reports Thomas Markle has been rushed to intensive care following an emergency surgery, after falling seriously ill at his residence in the Philippines.
The Duchess of Sussex’s dad underwent a three-hour procedure on Thursday local time and remains in intensive care, his son has confirmed. The 81-year-old is now facing a second operation to remove a blood clot.
