There are warnings for two days with heavy rain expected to fall across a large part of Wales
Here is what we know about the rain warnings that have been issued by the Met Office:
- Yellow rain alerts are in place for Saturday, November 29, and Monday, December 1. Heavy downpours are forecast for Wales, expected to start at around 6am on Saturday until 11.59pm, and from around midnight on Monday until 3pm.
- The Met Office said the areas affected were Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan.
- A Met Office forecast for Saturday reads: “Rain, heavy at times, is expected to develop across southwest England on Friday night and spread northeastward during Saturday before clearing into the North Sea on Saturday night.
- It adds: “There is uncertainty in the corridor of heaviest rainfall across England and Wales, but there is potential for 20-30mm to fall fairly widely with 50mm possible in places.
- The forecast for Monday adds: “A band of heavy rain is expected to move over south Wales between late Sunday and Monday afternoon. Whilst rainfall amounts will vary, some heavy and persistent rainfall is likely to fall over high ground, for example Bannau Brycheiniog.
- Adding: “Rain should clear to the east during Monday afternoon. 20-30mm of rain could fall quite widely across the wider region, but 60-80mm is likely to accumulate over some windward-facing high ground in south Wales. Strong south-westerly winds will accompany the heavy rain, particularly in coastal areas.”
- The Met Office says to check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
- The Met Office has three categories of weather warning, depending on the likely impact of severe weather and also how likely it is to strike in a particular area.
- A yellow warning is issued when weather conditions are expected to disrupt travel and traffic and may impact on daily routines but are not likely to pose a risk to life or property. Read more about the warning here.
