The Liverpool superstar was at training 48 hours after his explosive outburst plunged the club into crisis
Mo Salah has taken part in Liverpool training on Monday despite the storm created by his comments on Saturday night. The Egyptian laughed and joked with team-mates as he stepped out amid the furore.
There had been speculation he could be absent, but the forward was present ahead of the Champions League match against Inter Milan. He seemed relaxed and in good spirits, even getting a hug from Dominik Szoboszlai – the man who has replaced him at right wing in the team. Salah stood with team-mates as boss Arne Slot gave his orders for the session.
Salah’s arrival at the training ground on Monday morning followed an extraordinary weekend that has plunged the club into crisis. The 33-year-old Egyptian, a pillar of the team for years, has been left on the bench for three consecutive Premier League games, most recently sitting as an unused substitute during the disappointing 3-3 draw against Leeds United.
The constant omission boiled over into an explosive interview in the mixed zone at Elland Road. A visibly furious Salah did not mince words, saying, “I don’t know what to say, it’s kind of funny, I couldn’t believe it.”
He intensified his attack on the club and manager Arne Slot, expressing deep disappointment and a feeling of betrayal. “I could not believe I was sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. That’s the third time. It’s the first time in my career I think,” he stated. “It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus… I used to have a good relationship [with Slot]. Now we don’t have any relationship, and I don’t know why.”
Salah revealed he had called his parents to attend the upcoming match against Brighton, saying he planned to “say goodbye to the fans before the African Cup of Nations, because I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.” His comments strongly suggest he feels his long-term future at Anfield is now deeply uncertain.
While insisting he is not the problem and has earned his place, Salah’s outburst now forces Slot into a monumental decision. The manager’s squad selection for the trip to the San Siro to face Inter Milan will be the first major indication of how he plans to handle this public feud with one of Liverpool’s greatest players.
