The behaviour left the victim so ‘upset and distressed’ she was ‘unable to continue living in my home’

A mum was left so disturbed by what she found her neighbour doing on her Ring doorbell footage that she was forced to move into a hotel with her child.

A nuisance neighbour was caught repeatedly hurling abuse to a mother on a Ring doorbell camera in the North East. Adele Brannan was caught on camera threatening to kick her neighbour’s head in and strangle her for months last year.

A court heard that the victim felt so distressed by Brannan, she briefly moved into a hotel with her child. Brannan also continued to be abusive to the neighbour, despite being the subject of a community protection notice which was issued last July.

On Friday, Brannan, of Chatton Street, East Howdon, North Tyneside, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court charged with harassment without violence. The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence at the morning hearing, reports the Chronicle.

The court heard that Brannan repeatedly used abusive language during the harassment campaign, which spanned from February 4 to September 30, last year. Holly Clegg, prosecuting, said Brannan was caught on the victim’s Ring doorbell camera calling her names such as “trampy”, “a silly little s**” and “fat c***”.

She was also seen to stick her middle finger up at the camera during one incident, the court heard. Ms Clegg said that on one occasion, Brannan was with one of her own children when she was heard to call the victim a “rat”.

Ms Clegg said: “On one date, the defendant said ‘I’ll f****** strangle her’. In one incident in April last year, she said, ‘I’ll kick her f****** head in’.”

In a victim statement, the woman said Brannan’s behaviour left her “upset and distressed” and feeling “unable to continue living in my home”. The court was told she also briefly spent time in a hotel with her child due to the harassment.

Matthew Purves, defending, said Brannan had no previous convictions. He said: “There is more to this. There had been a complex back and forth between the two.

“The defendant had been silly and was caught [on camera] saying and discussing things when walking past and coming and going. She was not shouting and screaming at the top of her lungs.”

Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence probation report and adjourned the sentencing. Brannan – who told the court she was “very remorseful” – will return to the court for sentence on January 23.
