My Delhi Sunderland and Babaji scoop Asian Curry Awards 2025
My Delhi Sunderland, on Borough Road, took home the gong of Best Restaurant in North East England at the Asian Curry Awards 2025, whilst Babaji, on Mary Street, won Casual Dining Restaurant of the Year, National.
The awards, which recognise and reward excellence in food and service across the Asian catering sector in the UK, took place at Grosvenor House in Mayfair, London.
On winning a national award, Babaji wrote on Facebook: “We are beyond honoured to announce that we’ve been crowned CASUAL DINING RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR, NATIONAL at the Asian Curry Awards 2025.
“This moment is so much bigger than an award. It’s a celebration of the people who made it possible.
“To our loyal guests, our Sunderland community, and everyone who has walked through our doors over the years… thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Babaji, which won Asian Restaurant of the Year North East of England last year, said it is “proud” to represent Sunderland, to share the flavours of India with the UK and to continue the journey.
My Delhi Sunderland, which also won at last year’s awards, scooping Street Food Restaurant of the Year (North East), also took to social media on this year’s win.
Also writing on Facebook, the restaurant said: “Haway the Mackems! Sunderland… we did it.
“My Delhi Sunderland has taken home Best Restaurant in North East England at the Asian Curry Awards 2025, and I don’t even know where to begin.
“Moments like this feel surreal – a reminder of the heart, the graft, and the sheer love our team pours into every service.
“Thank you for believing in us, standing by us, and cheering us on. What a night for My Delhi Sunderland.”
