The documentary sheds light on the star’s rise to fame before his untimely death in 2018
Netflix subscribers are being urged to watch a ‘bittersweet’ documentary that tells ‘one of the saddest stories ever’.
Avicii: I’m Tim explores the journey of the late DJ Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, documenting his rapid rise to global fame before his tragic suicide in 2018.
The film features Avicii narrating his own story, providing a glimpse into his world beyond the decks. It also includes never-before-seen footage from the Swedish star’s personal life and interviews with those he worked alongside, including Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
The Stockholm native dominated the electronic dance music scene throughout the 2010s with chart-topping hits such as Wake Me Up and Levels. However, he struggled with health complications and substance abuse behind the scenes.
Netflix’s synopsis states: “This is the unlikely story of Tim Bergling, a shy and insecure boy who, without realizing it, suddenly created one of the world’s most loved artists – Avicii. Through unique home movies and a huge private archive, we get to follow Tim on a winding journey through life – from the very first breath at the maternity ward in Stockholm in 1989 to the tragic end in Oman in 2018.”

It continues: “This is a film where Tim himself is the narrator and he shares his inner self in a way we haven’t heard before. Through himself and everyone close to him – family, artist colleagues and best friends – we get to know Tim – the boy behind Avicii – for the first time.”
When the documentary first dropped, viewers were deeply affected, with countless people recommending it to others. On X, previously known as Twitter, one enthusiastic fan wrote: “AVICII’S LAST SHOW AND HIS DOCUMENTARY ARE ON NETFLIX RUUUUUUN,” reports the Mirror.
Another person shared: “I have just finished watching ‘I’m Tim’ the Avicii documentary on Netflix. It was very nicely put together and helps show the true genius and character of Tim Bergling. I recommend checking it out.”

Someone else posted: “Avicii doc on Netflix… A must-watch.” Yet another viewer praised the production, stating: “This Avicii I’m Tim documentary that was released on Netflix is absolutely incredible.”
Other viewers reflected on the DJ’s personal struggles, with one X user writing: “Avicii’s documentary on Netflix is one of the saddest stories I have ever watched.” Music enthusiasts also turned to Reddit to praise the documentary, with one confessing: “I really enjoyed the ‘I’m Tim’ documentary. Very well done.
“And to watch the last show after that was…bittersweet. Sad that Tim just wanted to make music and the success of his music became too much for him.”
The film rapidly ascended Netflix’s charts following its December 2024 premiere, and it was accompanied by a concert special of his final performance in Ibiza, entitled Avicii: My Last Show.
The performance took place on 28 August 2016, at the famous party destination, Ushuaïa Hotel. Although 2016 marked his final live appearance, Avicii carried on creating music for a further two years before tragically taking his own life in April 2018.
Avicii – I’m Tim and Avicii: My Last Show are streaming now on Netflix.
