A neuroscientist has shared the secret to adding collagen to your morning coffee to help with signs of ageing – and the health trend is taking social media by storm
There’s nothing quite like the first sip of your morning coffee – and it could be about to become even more enjoyable.
This is due to a neuroscientist suggesting that adding one simple ingredient to your morning brew could help combat ageing and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Robert Love, known for his health advice online, posted an informative video about the matter on TikTok. He named what he describes as the “best” supplement to slow down signs of ageing, which is already gaining popularity amongst celebrities. For that reason, you’ve likely already seen it making appearances on your social media feed.
The health expert began by emphasising the importance of choosing organic coffee, as conventional coffee can contain pesticides that can apparently be harmful to both your brain and body. He also recommended using distilled water.
Then, Robert stated: “The best thing to add to your coffee to help slow down ageing is collagen peptides. Collagen has great benefits for the skin, it has great benefits for the overall body – you can read the research on how people who take collagen have so many benefits from taking it.
“You want grass-fed or pasture-raised collagen – it has to be the highest quality. Next, make sure it’s third-party tested. It means you’re getting the highest quality.
“Lastly, this one has got Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid in. Vitamin C is necessary to use collagen effectively in your body so, when you take collagen, either take a Vitman C supplement with it or get one with Vitamin C in it.
“Hyaluronic acid is really good for the skin, it’s good for the plumpness and health of your skin. So this has so many great benefits. I add this to my coffee. I love it.”
Since being posted, the video has racked up thousands of views, with hundreds of people weighing in with their opinions in the comments section.
One viewer remarked: “Always looking for ways to make my coffee better.” Meanwhile, another commented: “I’ve been taking it in my coffee for a month-and-a-half and, honestly, I will probably take it for the rest of my life. I’ve never taken anything that I could tell the difference so dramatically.”
How does collagen prevent ageing?
According to the National Institutes of Health, research has demonstrated that consuming collagen orally helps to enhance the skin’s moisture levels, particularly in the stratum corneum. Additionally, it can improve suppleness and diminish wrinkles and rough texture.
Collagen also boosts fibroblasts and extracellular matrix proteins. Whilst evidence has indicated numerous advantages, further research into this matter is still required.
It’s important to mention that collagen won’t entirely halt the ageing process – and it’s always advisable to consult a healthcare professional before taking it.
