New bike workshop The Beard Cycleworks opens in Buttercrambe
Neil Limb, who most recently worked for York Cycleworks in Lawrence Street, and started out 15 years ago training at Bob Trotters bike shop in Lord Mayors Walk, has set up his own workshop called The Beard Cycleworks in Buttercrambe, close to Stamford Bridge.
As reported by The Press, York Cycleworks recently closed its doors for good after 45 years.
We went along to the new premises and caught up with the owner, who had a road bike and a Cannondale flat bar commuter on the stands, with a Cube mountain bike waiting its turn.

Neil said: “It’s a nice location with free customer parking and I wanted to be on the east side of York as it helps me reaches into villages and towns nearby like Dunnington, Stamford Bridge and Pocklington.
“It’s also only around a 15-minute drive from the old shop where I worked on so many customers’ bikes in my four years at York Cycleworks, and close to my home in Osbaldwick.”
The Cytech qualified mechanic said he will work on ‘pretty much every bike’ including e-bikes that are certified as such and has experience with all major component manufacturers.

Neil said demand for mechanic services in the summertime peaks at York Cycleworks led to three-week lead times and that if he could pick up those customers as well as new business that would help sustain him, adding that this type of work might not be easily distributed among remaining expert mechanics in the area.
Customers are encouraged to use the booking option on his website or simply bring their bikes in and have a chat over tea and coffee and one of his offers is a pre-booked ‘While you wait’ assessment and safety check.
A keen mountain biker, Neil enjoys riding locally in Yearsley Woods in the Howardian Hills and Dalby Forest further afield.
The Beard Cycleworks is at Unit 3b, Fold Court, Buttercrambe, York YO41 1XU
