New venue for Down vs Armagh as sporting fixtures fall foul to winter weather

Two Irish League games and five Championship games have been postponed due to the snow while today’s Conor McGurk Cup games have been moved to Monday

A host of sporting fixtures scheduled for Saturday have been postponed due to the winter winter.

A number of Irish League games have already been called off due to the snow with today’s Premiership ties between Ballymena and Glenavon and Portadown and Cliftonville postponed.

In the Championship, Ards v Limady, Newington v Dundela, Loughgall v Ballinamallard, Queen’s v Warrenpoint and Annagh v Institute are also off.

As things stand, the three remaining Premiership games are due to proceed as scheduled.

Carrick Rangers host Glentoran, Crusaders are at home to Dungannon while Linfield take on Bangor with all games set to go ahead at 3pm.

A number of GAA games have also been postponed today with the Conor McGurk Cup ties between Tyrone and Fermanagh and Monaghan and Louth postponed until Monday.

Tonight’s Dr McKenna Cup tie between Cavan and Monaghan is subject to a pitch inspection this afternoon while Kingspan Breffni is also hosting Sunday’s All-Ireland Club semi-final between Scotstown and St Brigid’s.

There is currently a yellow weather warning in place for snow and ice throughout the weekend.

Meanwhile, Wednesday night’s Dr McKenna Cup game between Down and Armagh has been moved from Páirc Esler in Newry to Burren.

Kieran McGeeney’s men began their season with a narrow two-point loss to rivals Tyrone in a game that was played in freezing conditions on Friday night at the Box-It Athletic Grounds.
