Scots should be weary of Farage’s ‘snake-oil sales pitch,’ says Record View.
According to Nigel Farage, this was going to be the year when Reform proved themselves to be a serious party capable of elected office.
He has been trying to convince the nation that they are no longer a shambolic outfit made-up of Tory rejects and racist cranks. And slowly his tactics appear to be working.
At May’s local elections in England, the party took charge of 10 local authorities. As expected, Reform has made a total hash of it from the get go. Dozens of councillors elected on a Reform ticket have already quit.
In other boroughs they have had to quickly U-turn on ridiculous spending cuts that threatened to shut down local services.
But here in Scotland, we are not immune to the Reform threat.
The party has made slower progress in Scotland but did win its first election last week after previously relying on mainly Tory defectors.
Before that, Claire Mackie-Brown was sitting as an independent before she made the jump to Reform earlier this year.
Since then, she’s been a vocal protester outside the Cladhan Hotel in Falkirk.
But she also found the time to be pictured, earlier this month, standing next to the openly fascist Homeland Party – whose members have called for all Jews and Muslims to be deported.
Mackie-Brown says she had no prior knowledge of the party and denounced their views.
But others will look at the company Reform members keep and fear what could happen if the party ever took charge of their local council.
Hopefully, few voters in Scotland will be fooled by Farage and his snake-oil sales pitch.
Chloe’s great gift
All little Chloe O’Grady wanted for Christmas was to see her dad.
And now her dream has come true after the Daily Record stepped in to cut through government red-tape.
We told last week how her dad Adrian, from Glasgow, had been given a terminal cancer diagnosis.
And he faced spending Christmas alone as his fiancee Yanti and little Chloe were in Bali, and unable to travel to the UK due to visa issues.
Once we stepped in to help, the Home Office finally sorted themselves out and allowed Chloe and her mum to travel.
Seeing pictures of Chloe being reunited with her dad in the Daily Record today will hopefully bring our readers some much-needed joy.
Her beaming smile as she cuddles her dad remind us all that family and togetherness are what Christmas is all about.
Presents and parties are all good fun – but nothing beats being with the ones you love.
