The 2024 sequel starring Paul Rudd and Bill Murray has reached number two on the streaming platform
Netflix is currently streaming a thrilling sequel from 2024, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which has quickly climbed to the number two spot on the platform’s top 10 film chart.
This action-filled supernatural comedy boasts an all-star cast, featuring many recognisable faces from the original 1984 film.
Despite not being a hit with critics, holding a 42 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has been well-received by dedicated fans of the franchise.
The audience response has been much more positive, with 81 percent of viewers expressing their love for the film. Many have hailed it as the best instalment in the franchise since the original.
Moreover, it has resonated with Netflix subscribers, surpassing other popular releases such as Wake Up Dead Man, Goodbye June and K-Pop Demon Hunters, nearly two years after its initial cinema release, reports the Express.

Following the success of the 2021 revival, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the spirit-wrangling family comprising Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon and McKenna Grace return for another wild supernatural adventure, this time set in New York City.
When a spectral force is once again unleashed onto the streets, the new team enlists the help of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts to defeat their latest adversary.
One Rotten Tomatoes user gushed in a five-star review: “Best film of the franchise! The animation on the Ghosts are excellent, the story feels original, the return of some familiar faces makes this so nostalgic, the comedy is excellent and Paul Rudd is amazing. Seriously, you can skip Afterlife and jump right to this one.”
Another viewer concurred: “I thought it was a lot of fun. Most original movie of the franchise since the first. Has a The Real Ghostbusters feel.
“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire might have been my favorite in the series,” a third enthusiast remarked.
“It was goofy, action packed fun with a creepy villain, a lot of characters, and Easter eggs from previous films.”
The positive feedback extended to Letterboxd, where one reviewer commented: “l really don’t say this lightly, but this was honestly one of the best movie-going experiences I’ve had in a long, LONG time.
“This movie is so much freer than the first, which in hindsight is exactly what it needed. It still doesn’t take itself too seriously and gives itself as much room to play around as it needs. I truly, truly never knew what to expect.”
Whilst a final admirer proclaimed: “I have real evidence that ghostbusters: frozen empire is one of the best films of the franchise.
“The ending was such a beautiful and heartfelt homage to the 1984 film. I teared up.

“There was something so comforting about Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd back as ghostbusters but so it was crestfallen that Harold Ramis was not (for obvious reasons, just like in the previous film).
“Also, this was the happiest Bill Murray I’ve seen in years and years! The man was really happy to be there and I don’t think it was solely for the money. truly felt he was a ghostbuster for real.”
