Moffat Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) was called out by Police Scotland at around 3.30pm yesterday, January 15, to assist with the rescue of the injured paraglider at Tinto Hill near Lanarkshire.

A total of 11 members of Moffat MRT responded, working alongside Police Scotland Mountain Rescue (West), Police Scotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard helicopter R199.

The first responders, including members of Moffat MRT, Police Scotland MRT and the ambulance service, climbed the hill to reach the casualty, where they were joined by the helicopter’s winch paramedic.

The team assessed the paraglider’s injuries, administered pain relief and secured them safely into a stretcher.

Meanwhile, other rescue team members remained at the base of the hill preparing equipment in case a stretcher carry-off was required.

The casualty was then winched into the Coastguard helicopter, with mountain rescue teams supporting the operation by managing the hi-line. They were flown to a major trauma centre for further assessment and treatment.

Moffat Mountain Rescue Team said they wished the casualty a full and speedy recovery.
