The school is proposed as part of a bigger development in Cambridgeshire
Parents can now apply for places at a new Cambridgeshire primary school, set to open next year. Key decisions such as layout and drawings for the Great Haddon Primary School and Nursery were approved by Peterborough City Council earlier this year.
In May, The Hampton Academies Trust was appointed by the Department of Education as the trust that will operate the school. Parents can now start to apply for places at the school, which will open in September 2026.
Councillor Katy Cole, cabinet member for children’s services at Peterborough City Council, said: “We’re excited for the opening of Great Haddon Primary School in September – a new school for Peterborough in one of the fastest growing areas of the city.
“It’s an exciting time for the council, for the children who will be starting at the school, and for Hampton Academies Trust who we are sure will run this school to a high quality in the coming years.”
The school will serve the Great Haddon area and take in 420 pupils (60 in each year group) and up to 50 children in the nursery. The school will also employ up to 50 staff, as well as 10 staff for the nursery.
It will have a multi-use games area and a large playing field with an athletics track. The school was proposed as part of the larger Great Haddon urban extension, approved by the city council in 2015.
As well as the primary school, there will be 5,350 homes, three shopping centres, two other primary schools, one secondary school and other facilities.
