Trains through parts of Cambridgeshire were disrupted in the early hours

Trains were disrupted through parts of Cambridgeshire after a person was hit by a train. Trains between St Neots and Hitchin were disrupted in the early hours of Wednesday (January 28).

This is after a person was hit by a train at a level crossing in Arlesey, Bedfordshire, at around 2.10am. British Transport Police attended and confirmed a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner. A BTP spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 2.10am this morning to reports of a casualty on the tracks at a level crossing in Arlesey.

“Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A Great Northern spokesperson said at 3.20am: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between St Neots and Hitchin. All lines are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.”
