Two fire and rescue crews plus a specialist water rescue unit was sent to the scene by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to safely remove the occupant from their car. Paramedics checked over the casualty following their ordeal.

The rescue came as an amber weather warning remains in force for parts of the country, with the Met Office warning that fast-flowing or deep floodwater poses a “danger to life”.

The amber alert covers areas of Angus, Perth and Kinross, and Aberdeenshire until 6pm, while a yellow warning for rain is also in place across much of the north east of Scotland until late Friday night. Major roads have been hit by flooding, including sections of the A9 and A85.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 8.32am on Thursday to reports of a vehicle in flood water near the B976 in Banchory, Aberdeenshire.

“Operations control mobilised two fire appliances and specialist water rescue units to the area.

“One casualty was removed from the car and guided to a place of safety. They were then checked over at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service.”

In a separate incident, two people were rescued from a school taxi on the B977 near to Kintore.

Bear Scotland has warned of disruption to roads in the affected areas, including on the A85 between Crieff and Lochearnhead in Perthshire, which it says has flooded but is still accessible if drivers use caution.
