Peterlee Cricket Club plans to build new clubhouse

Peterlee Cricket Club wants to replace an existing storm-damaged marquee and shipping container used as a social space with a timber-framed ‘summer house’.

Club bosses filed for planning permission for the 60-square-metre clubhouse on Helford Road.

They argue there will be no change of use for the site, which has been a community and sports hub for more than 50 years.

No alterations to vehicle or pedestrian access around the site are noted.

All activities are proposed to remain community and sports-focused, with non-amplified music and an existing alcohol licence.

Winter use (November to February) will be “irregular” and limited to evenings/weekends for meetings/social events.

Its opening is set to create two new part-time jobs .

Opening hours for the clubhouse will be Monday through Friday, 4.30pm until 10.30pm, Saturdays between 9am and 11pm and on Sundays and bank holidays, noon until 11pm.
