A gripping crime series has landed on Netflix, with viewers rapidly tuning in to watch the astonishing true story unfold.

Manhunt: Chasing The Fox may have initially aired in 2023 on Channel 5, but it has piqued the interest of Netflix enthusiasts after being released on Sunday, November 23.

The riveting two-part docu-series centres on the pursuit and capture of sex offender and burglar Malcolm Fairley, who was on the run for six months before his arrest in September 1984.

Over 200 police officers were engaged in the search for Fairley, who had committed an astounding 81 offences at the time of his apprehension.

Dubbed ‘The Fox’, he would construct “dens” using items such as furniture and blankets within his victims’ residences, lying in wait for their return, often armed with a shotgun.

During these periods, he would prepare and cook food, watch television, and rummage through their possessions.

As Fairley’s crimes, which occurred across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire, became infamous, locals attempted to take action themselves.

Vigilante groups were formed to patrol the streets, and windows were bolted shut in fear of The Fox attempting to break into their homes.

The Netflix series chronicles how the police finally managed to apprehend Fairley after a six-month manhunt, thanks to forensic evidence linking his car to an assault.

He passed away at the age of 71 from a heart attack while serving six life sentences for his crimes in HMP Hull.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, someone asked: “How anybody seen that new Netflix documentary, The Fox? Absolutely insane!”
