Plans for outdoor riding arena near Scarborough
The construction of an equine ménage has been proposed by the owners of Eastgate House Farm at Stoney Haggs Road, in Seamer, near Scarborough.
Alexis Simpson’s proposal seeks planning permission to “install an additional equine ménage adjacent to the existing one to allow for horse exercise and jump practice alongside hosting occasional equine events”.
According to submitted plans, Eastgate House Farm was built by Mr and Mrs Simpson after receiving planning permission in 2007.
If permission is granted, small-scale equine events would “occasionally occur between March and October and be strictly controlled by the applicant, being invitation only”.
The ménage would be constructed immediately to the east of and adjacent to the existing smaller ménage, and would by 60 metres long and 40 metres wide with a 1.5m high timber post and rail fence.
Proposed events would take place from 10am-7pm, while the “full time is seldom required, but this provides a window of opportunity for events to be in the morning or afternoon and sufficient time to set up and close down,” the applicant said.
They added: “It is likely that an event would take place on a weekend, with the occasional weekday during summer holiday periods.”
Submitted proposals state that there would be no alterations to the existing vehicular access to the site or to alter existing vehicular parking arrangements.
“The applicant proposes to allow invited guests to utilise the existing hardstanding and turning area much as existing family guests do currently.”
The proposal adds: “This area is located at some distance from the working area of the farm and a separate farm entrance ensuring no conflicts or risk to safety.”
North Yorkshire Council has not set a date for deciding on the application, which is open to representations.
