Plans to build flats on Medomsley Road, Consett, submitted

Proposals, lodged with Durham County Council, seek to transform land south of 55 Medomsley Road in Consett into new residential units.

The vacant site, which was last used for residential purposes between 2002 and 2005, will be developed to include four flats.

These will consist of two one-bedroom and two two-bedroom flats/maisonettes, all intended for social, affordable, or intermediate rent.

The project, spearheaded by Mr Tony O’Brien of The Old Bank, Newmarket Street, Consett, aims to rejuvenate the site, which was formerly a three-storey residential dwelling.

It has since been demolished, and the site has become overgrown with scrub and grass.

According to the application form, three new parking spaces will be included in the development, along with waste storage areas for both recyclable and general waste.

The proposal was submitted to the council on October 27 by Mr O’Brien.
