Plans to turn former farmland at Medomsley into campsite

Mr David Clifford has applied for a retrospective change of use for land at West View Farm in Medomsley, County Durham, which has been used as a campsite since April 2019.

The site includes approximately 18 pitches, including 2 glamping pods, 1 Gypsy caravan, and 15 pitches for caravans and tents.

A toilet and shower block was added in 2023.

The application includes plans for an on-site shop selling camping accessories and local produce.

Proposed changes are intended to make the campsite “low-impact” and “eco-friendly,” but site will not see any new or altered vehicle or pedestrian access.

Parking arrangements will remain the same.

The campsite will be open 24 hours a day, while the on-site shop will operate from 9am to 3pm daily.

The business will also increase its staff from one full-time worker to 1.5 full-time equivalent, which means employing three part-time staff.
