Police and staff assaulted at Manchester Airport, force says
The officers say they had been processing a man in custody after the suspected him of breaching security at the airport when the assault happened
Two sergeants and a custody officer were taken to hospital and have since been discharged.
Superintendent Helen Caldbeck said: “Assaults on officers and staff, particularly when they’ve been serving the public over Christmas and New Year, is simply not acceptable.
“Emergency workers are serving the public and trying to keep people safe during the festive season and should not have to go to hospital when they are doing their jobs.
“Thankfully, they are all recovering from their injuries.
“We will be progressing this case and want to send a clear message that we will not accept this behaviour.”
Greater Manchester Police say a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of assault and breach of security.
He remains in custody for questioning.
