Police appeal for witnesses after pedestrian struck by car in Salford

Emergency services were called to Great Cheetham Street East at 5.45pm.

Police say the pensioner was struck by a Vauxhall Astra.

The pensioner was taken to hospital but tragically died.

No arrests have been made and police are now appealing for witnesses as part of their investigation.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their investigation. No arrests have been made in relation to this incident, however an investigation into the collision will continue.

“Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

“They are keen to speak to anyone who may have CCTV footage, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the incident.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting log number 2587 of the 24/01/2026.”
