Police arrest nine in York and Selby during latest operation
The police force pools resources and comes together for 24 hours every month in select areas to tackle key crime issues.
In York, teams of officers patrolled the city centre during the afternoon and evening to crack down on the use of illegal e-scooters, specialist off-road bikes and vehicles.

At 2.45pm, an officer, helped by CCTV, noticed a motorcyclist doing wheelies in the city centre.
A force spokesperson explained: “In less than 90 seconds the dedicated city centre motorbike team had the rider stopped.

It comes after Chief inspector Ryan Chapman said that the force had “listened to the concerns” of those in York, who told police that they “had had enough” of those riding bikes in the city “without regard for people’s safety”.
He furthered: “We also know that illegal e-bikes and e-scooters are often linked to serious criminality, our message is clear, we will not tolerate this behaviour in York.
“I would urge parents to think twice before buying these for Christmas and if you do, please familiarise yourself with the law to ensure that they are road legal”.

In Selby, officers executed a drugs warrant at a home close to Flaxley Road in Selby.
A 25-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs after suspected drugs, drug paraphernalia, cash and designer goods were found at the address.
A second search connected to the incident was also carried out at a home in Burn.

Speaking about Operation Tornado, Ed Haywood-Noble, area commander for York and Selby, Superintendent, said: “Operation Tornado focuses on specific issues that we know are affecting the people who live and work in communities across York and Selby.
“York is experiencing high footfall in the run up to Christmas so it’s important that we have a visible presence daily across the city to provide reassurance to retailers and members of the public.
“I want to be clear that yesterday’s operation is to bolster our daily business.
“We will be back out today, tomorrow and every day working on these key issues that matter to our communities.”
This year, the operation has led to more than 150 arrests across the county.
Officers are now planning the launch of the monthly initiative for 2026.
