Police in anti-social behaviour crackdown in Acomb

Officers said it followed a rise in reports of anti-social behaviour involving young people in Acomb.

North Yorkshire police has launched Op Harmony which will see increased patrols in key areas to engage with those involved in the incidents, as well as businesses and residents affected.

Acting police sergeant Ben Ambler, from North Yorkshire Police, said there had been a recent spate of assaults, criminal damage and thefts.

He said several of the youths reportedly involved have been arrested and/or interviewed in relation to the incidents.

“The behaviour that has occurred in recent weeks is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” he said.

“I want to reassure the local community that proactive and robust steps have been put in place to address these issues.”

Police said officers will continue to patrol areas affected by anti-social behaviour and “where possible take positive action, utilising relevant powers, including dispersals”.

“We will also work closely with the City of York council, schools, social care, local businesses and other partner agencies to address these issues,” a police spokesperson said.
