The demonstration started in Piccadilly Gardens, before moving to the square outside the Central Library.

Several arrests have reportedly been made with video showing police officers escorting people from the area. It has not yet been confirmed how many people have been arrested, or the details of alleged offences.

Some demonstrators reportedly chanted ‘shame on you’ as protesters were led away by police. Others were heard chanting ‘we love you’.

Other demonstrators clapped as officers escorted people away from the area. A number of counter-demonstrators are also in St Peter’s Square this afternoon, with some allegedly holding Great Britain flags.

The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police for more information on the arrests.
