Police referred to watchdog after woman seriously injured

A 25-year-old woman was transferred to hospital with serious injuries following an incident

A 25-year-old woman sustained serious injuries during an incident that resulted in the A483 being closed. Emergency services were called to the dual carriageway at approximately 4.30pm on Wednesday following “concerns for the safety of a woman”.

The road was closed near the B&Q roundabout in Wrexham whilst emergency services attended the scene. North Wales Police have now confirmed a woman was seriously injured, and they have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), the policing watchdog.

A police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 4.30pm (Wednesday, 17 December), officers responded to concerns for the safety of woman seen near junction 5 of the A483 in Wrexham.

“A temporary road closure was enforced whilst officers were at the scene.

“A 25-year-old woman was later transferred to hospital with serious injuries. The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).”

As the incident developed, a North Wales Police spokesperson said: “Officers are responding to an ongoing incident on the A483 in Wrexham – near to junction 5 by the B&Q roundabout.

“Roads surrounding the location are closed at the moment so please avoid the area for the time being. Thanks in advance for your patience.”

The road was reopened around 6.30pm.
