Popular brewery 'blown away' by support as it confirms new Stockport bar

The new bar takes over from a much-loved business which has sadly closed its doors

A Cumbrian brewery has confirmed it’s heading to Stockport as it prepares to open a new bar in the town’s historic quarter. Fell Brewery has confirmed it will take over the former MØ6B bar on Petersgate.

Opening on Friday, November 28, owners of the brewery have said the bar will build on the ‘brilliant foundations’ laid by Andy and the MØ6B team, whose ‘loyal community has shaped the space into a much-loved local hub’.

Guests can look forward to a rotating line-up of Fell beers, fresh from the brewery, alongside a carefully curated selection of guest breweries from across the UK and beyond. The brand prides itself on its commitment to championing independent beer, supporting local producers and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome.

Michael Dixey, managing director at Fell Brewery, said: “Stockport has an incredible independent scene and a strong sense of community. We’re excited to become part of that story and to build on everything Andy and his team have created here. We can’t wait to meet the regulars and welcome new faces too.”

Writing on Instagram to confirm the news to its followers, the team added: “It’s official! Fell Stockport will be located in the former MØ6B site in central Stockport.

“We’ve been blown away by all the positive comments since we’ve announced the new bar and can’t wait to start welcoming everyone there. We’ll be open from Friday, 28 November – more updates to follow.”

Founded in South Cumbria in 2013, Fell has said its formation was the result of “two naïve, ignorant mates who, frankly, should have known better”. They opened their first bars in Kendal and Penrith back in 2017.

In 2020, they decided to spread their wings and took a gamble on an old clothes shop which turned into Fell Bar Chorlton. Then, when the pub up the road in Cartmel didn’t open up again post Covid, they took that on too.

Last year, the brewery also gave a Northern Quarter venue a lifeline as it took over the former Pelican site, an independent craft beer bar on the corner of Dale Street and Tariff Street.

At the start of the 2024, Manchester brewery Squawk was forced to put an end to ten years of brewing world-renowned craft ales, IPAs and lagers after being ‘chucked out’ of their building for several months of maintenance works. The brewer said at the time it had come to the decision to ‘hang up its boots’.

Andrew Carter, the Cumbrian brewery founder told the Manchester Evening News at the time: “It’s really unfortunate what has happened to Squawk. Pelican has always been a separate business but it had a really close relationship with the brewery. They approached us about a partnership to keep a close brewery relationship going. We intend to run it in very much the same ethos as when they were partnered with Squawk.”

Since taking on the venue last year, the taproom has offered visitors an expanded lineup of Fell craft beers, complemented by a carefully curated selection of guest line. They also have a large collection of fine and rare beers, ciders, wines, and whiskeys.

The new Fell bar in Stockport will open on Friday, 28 November. It will be open Wednesday through to Saturday every week.
