Durham Police confirmed on Friday (January 9) the victim’s condition has stabilised.
A spokesperson said: “The investigation remains ongoing, and the victim is in a stable condition in hospital.”
The road was cordoned throughout the day on Thursday with what the Echo understands to be medical supplies including blue gloves left in the carriageway.
Police thanked residents for their support and co-operation while investigations were carried out.
Meanwhile neighbours told how they woke up to find the road cordoned off.
One said: “It’s been like that since the early hours of the morning. Something serious must have happened as I went to walk my dog this morning and it was all blocked off, so couldn’t get through.
“I hope everyone’s okay.”
