Ray Chapman Motors to open Chery dealership in New Year
For more than five decades, Ray Chapman Motors has operated solely as a Yorkshire-based Volvo dealer, maintaining an exclusive commitment to the brand.
However, recognising changes in the UK car industry — particularly the rapid rise of electrification and the arrival of high-quality, competitively priced Chinese manufacturers — the business has chosen to add Chery to its business and is confident it will complement its already excellent relationship with the Volvo brand.
Managing Director Duncan Chapman emphasises his family’s commitment to Volvo is unwavering and will continue as strongly as ever.

The introduction of Chery sits alongside, not in place of, the Volvo franchise, the company says.
Ray Chapman Motors has invested heavily in its Volvo sites over the years and remains fully confident in the brand’s future and its impressive pipeline of new products.
Chery, founded in 1997 and now one of China’s largest automotive groups, will launch its range from a newly redeveloped, state-of-the-art showroom on Malton Road, Huntington.
The new facility will feature a modern exterior and a six-car showroom.
Scheduled to open at the end of January 2026, this new development — located on the former D & J Woodcock Garage Services site — marks a significant strategic investment for Ray Chapman Motors.
Ray Chapman Motors says the move demonstrates the company’s commitment to offering customers more choice and positions the business at the forefront of the fast-evolving automotive landscape.
This expansion complements the existing Volvo centres in Bradford, Huddersfield, Malton and York.
The new showroom in York, will showcase Chery’s full line-up of mid-sized SUVs.
Ray Chapman Motors Managing Director Duncan Chapman said: “For over five and a half decades, Ray Chapman Motors has been synonymous with quality, trust and exceptional customer service, anchored by our long-standing partnership with Volvo.
“The acquisition of the Chery franchise represents a significant and exciting new chapter for our business — one which enhances and complements our Volvo operation.”
“Chery is a brand defined by innovation, performance and exceptional pricing — qualities that we know will resonate strongly with customers across Yorkshire. With the Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 offering outstanding specifications for the money, we expect considerable demand from day one.”
