A recipe developer shared a tasty Christmas side dish that is perfect for the festive season – and it’s the perfect way to jazz up your red cabbage
Everyone has their own favourite elements of a Christmas dinner, whether that be the turkey, roast potatoes, or pigs in blankets. However, no festive feast would be complete without a colourful selection of side dishes, reports the Express.
Vegetables can be the stars of the table, including a rich, deep red cabbage. Boiling cabbage can be uninspiring, so recipe developer Amy Sheppard shared her creative twist on the dish to elevate it to the next level.
In a TikTok video from November, Amy said: “If you’re looking for a Christmas Day side dish that’s a little bit different. One that tastes amazing but is super easy to make, you have got to add this one to your list.
“It’s a little bit sweet and a little bit tangy. We’ve had it with our roast for the last couple of weeks and it’s just so good…and the leftovers are amazing in a ham and cheese toastie.”
Amy wasn’t just satisfied with using red cabbage, so she added red onion for a zingy twist. The recipe developer also included some familiar festive flavours, using cranberry sauce, honey, and Dijon mustard.
Amy’s video has been viewed 73,900 times, receiving 2,251 likes and 41 comments, at the time of writing. Nisey said: “Look as good going to try this thank you.”
One home cook suggested: “This would be lovely with grated apple in it.”
Imane wrote: “Looks delicious definitely will try this out thanks for the recipe.”
Another person commented, “This looks devine,” whilst Jane added, “Red cabbage is always on my dinners yummy yummy.”
Lisa wrote “I’ve never been one for red cabbage but might give this a try.”
SweetSilly commented: “Christmas tradition in Denmark. No christmas dinner without it. It also is used cold as a topping on cold cuts (on rye bread).”
So if you’re hoping to elevate your red cabbage this Christmas, here’s what you’ll need to do.
