Redcar rapist has sentence extended after going on the run

David Morrison fled the country after he was convicted of rape and assault by penetration.

The 44-year-old was jailed for ten years in his absence after he failed to show up at Teesside Crown Court on Friday, October 24.

He was eventually tracked down to Spain before being extradited to start serving his prison sentence.

Recorder Nathan Moxon sentenced the rapist to a further four weeks in prison to run consecutively with his first sentence.

He said: “I am satisfied that failing to attend was a deliberate attempt to evade or delay justice.

“It did cause substantial delay and administration of justice as it delayed your sentence and delayed you commencing your sentence.

“The victim of your offending has the right to expect you to start your sentence without delay but by your actions you delayed that process and no doubt their ability to start to move on with their lives.”

Morrison’s victim previously slammed the justice system after he was allowed to walk free from court while awaiting sentence, despite being convicted by a jury at the same court.

The woman says the delays and lack of action have left her in a permanent state of fear, battling complex PTSD, and nightmares.

She previously told the Echo: “I feel like a prisoner — while he’s out living his life like nothing happened.”

Morrison, of Wilton Castle Lane, Wilton, near Redcar, was made subject of a lifelong restraining order and told he would have to sign on the sex offenders’ register for life.
