Review: I Tried The Dyson Airwrap I.D. And It’s A Game-Changer

I’ve always been a Dyson Airwrap worshipper. I remember when the first one came out, and I kept looking at it longingly, knowing it would be a great investment.
I also remember the day I brought my first one home and just knew it would absolutely change my life.
It did, and I have been hooked ever since. I can barely remember how to use a curling tong these days…
So when I got the chance to test the i.d. model against my old faithful, it’s safe to say I jumped at the chance.
For context, I have naturally wavy, frizzy, thick hair. So any hair tool has a mountain to climb when it comes to styling.
How the Airwrap works
For the uninitiated, the Airwrap works by styling your hair from damp to dry – in my opinion, it’s best for styling soft curls, but can also be used to blow-dry hair straight.
The best tips I can offer for this are as follows:
- Towel dry your hair and make sure you use a good heat protectant, this is crucial to help avoid heat damage.
- Part your hair and section it out. I like to do it in two sections and do the left side then the right (not that the order totally matters, but still!).
- Use your drying attachment to blow-dry it until it’s about 80% dry, so it’s still damp but not sodden.
- Go in with your curling barrel or brush attachment of choice.
- If using the curling barrel, the barrel will have an arrow on the top of it, make sure it’s facing your mirror as it will direct the curls away from your face. I like to take an inch section of my hair per curl. Repeat this around your head.
- That’s it – happy styling!
Why should I upgrade my model?
Well, the answer really depends on what you need the tool for and how high-tech you really want to go with it all. I have been a loyal user of the Airwrap multi-styler for the last five years. It’s done me well and I honestly could not say a bad word about it.
It’s truly been the best hair tool I’ve ever bought.
If you’re looking for a tool that’s going to speed up your hair routine and also enhance your styling, then honestly, look no further.
The multi-styler is a fantastic model for beginners, but if you’re looking for something a bit more powerful and tailored to your needs, then the i.d. model is the perfect tool for you.
Multi-Styler vs i.d.
So the big differences between the two are:
- The multi-styler does not connect to the MyDyson app, you just have to use it manually.
- The i.d. is far more powerful, you can feel the difference in airflow pretty quickly.
- The i.d. has personalised styling. So, you input your hair type in the app and then it automatically sets up a styling routine for you.
- There are new and improved attachments with the i.d., like the conical barrel and the larger round brush.
The i.d. model comes with a new conical curling attachment, which gets your curls closer to your roots (a game-changer let me tell you), a new round brush attachment that is larger than the multi-styler, a flyaway attachment, a regular dryer (if you know, you know, this was the best) and a regular 40mm barrel.
What’s the verdict?
I will admit, it took me a minute to get the hang of it and understand how it works properly (nothing a good TikTok scroll couldn’t fix), but once I did I was absolutely hooked.
My hair has never looked better with the i.d. model. I thought it looked good before, but I swear the upgrade was made for my hair type.
My hair is my thing so having a tool that can make it look like I just walked out of a salon is very important to me.
I love the fact it’s all timed to suit my hair type and it’s made styling my hair so much easier. I also love the fact it’s more powerful than the original, so I feel like it holds my curls for longer which is a lovely bonus.
I think it is really worth the upgrade. I think it will completely change your hair routine and make your life so much easier. It saves me time in the morning when I’m getting ready because one good Airwrap session can last me for days.
When I say ‘run, don’t walk’ to the shops to get this, I mean it. You will not regret it one bit. It will be the best purchase you make for yourself.
