The fashion retailer has pulled its Pink Floral Heat Seal Droplet Bucket Handbag after tests found higher than permitted lead levels in the handle
River Island has recalled one of its products due to a serious chemical risk for customers. The high street fashion chain has removed its Pink Floral Heat Seal Droplet Bucket Handbag from sale after discovering hazardous levels of lead present on its gold chain.
Contact with lead can result in harm to the kidneys, the circulatory system and poses particular dangers to pregnant people. The item code is 927917.
In a recall notice issued online, River Island stated: “As part of our ongoing commitment to product quality and customer safety, we have decided to recall this item after our due diligence testing identified higher than permitted levels of lead in the handle.
“While these areas are limited in size, they are considered accessible during use and therefore do not meet our strict safety standards. Please stop using the product that is subject to this recall notice and arrange to return the item.
“We consider the risk of harm to be low, however lead is toxic and can cause adverse health issues only when mouthed for prolonged periods or ingested, however your safety is our highest priority therefore we are recalling this style immediately as a precautionary measure.”
River Island added: “Please stop using this handbag immediately and keep it away until it can be returned. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and will, of course, offer you a full refund.”
For purchases made both in-store and online, items can be returned to: River Island Customer Service Parcels Freepost, MK17 8EW. To check for additional product recalls, visit the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Chartered Trading Standards (CTS) Institute websites. Recall notices should also be displayed in shops where products have been withdrawn from sale.
Further recalls to note include Tesco withdrawing its own-brand Celery Fruit and Nut Salad 300g as it contains mustard which isn’t listed on the label. This poses a risk for those with a mustard allergy.
The affected batch carries a use by date of December 2. Customers who have bought this product and have a mustard intolerance can return it to any Tesco store for a full refund.
Kendamil infant milk has also been withdrawn from sale. B&M has advised customers to “not use” the products owing to a “date-related” issue.
The products carry an expiry date of October 8 on the packaging and were recalled last month.
Amazon has recalled a children’s swim vest amid concerns it could present a “serious risk of drowning”. The Petiyark Neoprene Swim Vest was deemed dangerous for children as the buoyancy aid features “conflicting minimum or maximum sizing limits”.
Furthermore, the swim vest was noted as being hard to see in the water owing to the absence of “bright, conspicuous colours”.
