RSPCA York seeks loving home for Great Dane cross Dennis

Dennis, a Great Dane cross breed, was admitted to the charity’s Animal Home in Landing Lane in September by the stray dog service.

The one-year-old was described as ‘extremely underweight’ when he arrived, but has since developed into a big, strong, fun-loving dog with a huge heart.

Ruth McCabe, animal centre manager, said: “Dennis is our big, loveable goofball looking for his forever home.”

Still very young, Dennis has lots still to learn and is looking for a family who will take him under their wing and help guide him as he grows.

Dennis is still gaining weight and isn’t yet fully grown, so potential adopters will need to keep his future size and ongoing nutritional needs in mind.

Dennis loves life with enthusiasm – and would benefit from an adult-only home.

He’s a dog who loves life with enthusiasm, sometimes a little too much!

The centre’s team, alongside an RSPCA behaviourist, has been working hard to help Dennis slow down and take things at a gentler pace.

He’s responding brilliantly and genuinely enjoys engaging with his people during training sessions. His new family will need to continue this training, which Dennis will thoroughly enjoy.

Out on walks, Dennis can become frustrated when passing other dogs, but this is simply because he wants to play. He’s learning that not all dogs appreciate the approach of a big, bouncy boy.

He’s very sociable and friendly with dogs, though he can get a bit over-excited, so he’s still perfecting his doggy etiquette.

Although Dennis likes other dogs, he will need to be the only pet in an adult-only home so he can receive the consistent training, structure, and attention he needs to thrive.

If you’re looking for a big-hearted companion with a zest for life and you’re ready to help guide a young dog still learning about the world Dennis might just be your perfect match.

Ruth said: “Dennis is a really lovely lad who just needs the stability of a permanent home. He is a large breed dog which can be very challenging for us to find adopters willing to take him on. We are hoping there are some experienced Dane-loving owners out there, willing to give him the home he so desperately needs.”

Dennis needs to be in an adult-only home with no other pets.
