Comic Russell Brand has been charged with one further count of rape and another further count of sexual assault in relation to two more women

Former comedian Russell Brand is facing additional charges of rape and sexual assault. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that Brand, 50, from Oxfordshire, has been charged with an additional count of rape and another count of sexual assault relating to two more women.

These new allegations are on top of charges brought against the comedian in April 2025, which include two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault involving four women.

Lionel Idan, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS, stated: “Today the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised two further charges of rape and sexual assault against Russell Brand.

“Mr Brand is already charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault in relation to reported non-recent offences between 1999 and 2005, involving four women. These new charges relate to separate reports of non-recent offences in 2009, involving two additional women.

“These additional charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police.”

“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring these additional charges to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue further criminal proceedings.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that there be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

Brand is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 January to answer the new charges, reports the Daily Star.

Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi from the Metropolitan Police, who is spearheading the investigation, stated: “The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers.”

He added: “The Met’s investigation remains ongoing, and detectives urge anyone affected by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with police. A dedicated team of investigators can be reached via email at CIT@met.police.uk.

“Support is also available through the independent charity Rape Crisis by contacting the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”

Last year, Brand vehemently denied any wrongdoing after The Sunday Times and Channel 4 Dispatches conducted a joint investigation into the allegations, asserting that all his relationships had been consensual.

On X, in front of his 11.2 million followers, he previously expressed his desire for the chance to prove his innocence.
