Ryanair hand luggage rules passengers need to know
The airline, which operates flights from Manchester Airport, requires all travellers to comply with strict baggage allowances or face having items refused at the boarding gate or placed in the aircraft hold for a fee.
Advice on the website says: “You must adhere strictly to the baggage allowance on your booking.
“If your small bag or 10kg cabin bag does not fit in the baggage sizers, it will be refused at the boarding gate, or where available, placed in the hold of the aircraft for a fee at the level set out in our Regulations.”
Any bags that do not fit in the cabin baggage sizer must be left at the aircraft steps, in the gate bag trolley, or as directed by Ryanair agents to be stored in the hold.
All Ryanair fares include one small personal bag, which must fit under the seat in front of you.
Passengers who need additional baggage can add a 10kg check-in bag or a 20kg or 23kg check-in bag for an extra charge.
The maximum dimensions for 20kg and 23kg check-in bags are 80cm x 120cm x 120cm, and no single item may exceed 32kg in weight unless it is mobility equipment.
Bag pooling is allowed for passengers on the same booking.
For example, two travellers with 20kg bags each can combine their allowance, but no individual bag may exceed 32kg.
Once baggage has been purchased, it cannot be removed from the booking or refunded.
All checked bags must be dropped off at the airport bag drop desk.
If a checked bag is brought to the boarding gate, an additional fee will apply to place it in the hold.
Passengers carrying high-value items in their checked luggage are advised to request a ‘Checked Baggage Special Declaration of Value’ at the Airport Ticket Desk to increase Ryanair’s liability in case of loss or damage.
Items such as golf clubs, bikes, and musical instruments that exceed cabin baggage size can be checked into the hold for a fee.
If the equipment exceeds the standard weight limit (20kg for most items, 30kg for bicycles), excess weight charges will apply.
Passengers flying from Manchester Airport cannot purchase excess baggage online and must do so at the airport check-in desk.
Lost, delayed, or damaged baggage must be reported at the arrival airport’s Lost Property Desk and followed up with a claim to Ryanair.
