In a 2024 interview Sarah Ferguson made a brutal two word comment about her ex husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor
Sarah Ferguson previously described Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor as a “sad man” during a candid tell-all interview in 2024. The 66-year-old former Duchess of York, who was married to Andrew from 1986 to 1996, made the remarks as she addressed ongoing scrutiny surrounding his past friendship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Despite the controversy, Sarah revealed she “wouldn’t let Andrew down.”
Reflecting on her own family life, Sarah spoke about the impact of her late mother leaving her dad for another man, explaining how she later became her father’s carer. Drawing a parallel to her own situation, she said: “When Jane left for Australia, I became a carer for Dad. I was left to look after a sad man,” before adding, “which is sort of what I’m doing now,” in reference to her former husband.
Sarah, who has lived with Andrew at Royal Lodge since 2008, went on to speak fondly about him despite their divorce, the Express reports. She stated: “I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 per cent. He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind.”
Reflecting on her wedding day, she added: “Our wedding was the best day of my life. But I gave up my anonymity that day. I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today. I won’t let him down.”
Sarah spoke about their continued bond, as she explained: “He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agree on the three Cs — communication, compromise, compassion.”
Alongside Andrew losing his royal titles and honours in late October and early November of last year, Sarah was also stripped of her Duchess of York title.
In the wake of the controversy, several charities chose to cut ties with her, citing the ongoing fallout from the Epstein scandal as the reason.
The move followed the resurfacing of a 2011 email in which Sarah, who also goes by the name Fergie, had referred to Epstein as a “supreme friend,” resulting in intense public backlash for the former Duchess who was once ‘loved’ by the public.
Speaking in the same tell all interview in 2024, Sarah’s older sister Jane offered her perspective on the former couple’s close relationship following their divorce.
She said: “Sarah and Andrew are the best divorced couple I know. They’ve done it for their children; it’s incredible.”
Jane recalled visiting Royal Lodge, as she continued: “I came to stay at Royal Lodge in May [2024] and went riding with Andrew at Windsor Castle. It was lovely to get back on a horse and ride through the grounds again.”
