A campus police officer took the knife off of the student after it was pulled out during lessons on Monday.

A police officer removed a knife from a pupil at a highschool in Ayr after the weapon was taken out during class. The shocking incident took place at Belmont Academy on Monday afternoon.

A campus police officer was called to the classroom to intervene after a student took the blade out in front of classmates. Police Scotland confirmed that the pupil was traced and a report will now be sent to the relevant authorities.

The school issued a letter to parents from the headteacher Kevin Boyd who assured families that ‘safeguarding measures are in place.’ He added: “The safety and wellbeing of all our pupils is our highest priority.”

The dad of one pupil at the school told the Record he is worried about sending his son back. He said: “I am worried about sending my child there now.

“My son called me during the day after the incident took place. It wasn’t his class but the whole school quickly knew and he was terrified.

“A lot of people didn;t want a campus police officer in the school. This just shows you why it’s needed.

“The school should make a move to get all the pupils together and speak to them about knives and the consequences of carrying them.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Monday, 24 November, 2025, we received a report of a child being in possession of a knife in a school in Ayr.
