Scores of Selby area homes affected by all-day power cut

Engineers working for Northern Powergrid are now hoping to restore power by 10.30pm, about 12 hours after the power went off.

They had initially hoped to restore power in a couple of hours.

The power company is currently saying that 143 properties are affected in 156 postcode areas.

It has yet to reveal the cause of the power cut.

Bill Hearld, who lives in Burn, one of the villages affected, said: “It’s an inconvenience and obviously shows how much we rely on electricity for our daily lives.”

The affected area includes Selby, Thorpe Willoughby, Brayton, Barlow, Camblesforth, Temple Hirst, West and Chapel Haddlesey, Burn, Gatesforth and Hambleton.

All forms of electrical supply are affected, such as lighting, heating circuits and those that need electricity such as the internet.

Isolated farms have been affected as well as villages and the town.
