One shopper said it ‘spoils it for children’ and ‘ruins the magic’
Easter eggs have been spotted for sale on the shelves of a Poundland store – 103 days early. Poundland over on St Stephens Street, Norwich, has started putting chocolate Easter eggs and rabbits on the shop floor alongside the reindeer and Christmas crackers.
Mini Eggs, Creme Eggs and Maltesers Bunnies are among the items on sale in the discount chain’s ‘any two for £3’ deal. Easter Sunday falls on April 5 next year – which is just over three months away – and many shoppers in Norwich believe it is far too early to start selling chocolate eggs.
One shopper, Simon Dade, 69, said: “It’s way too early, it’s like selling Christmas trees in spring. I don’t celebrate Easter and I know it’s important to some people, but I don’t understand why they have to be on shelves now.”

Sue Rose, 71, added: “I think it’s ridiculous and spoils it for children, especially because it makes it less special if they are available this soon. I mean, Christmas hasn’t even gone yet, and it ruins the magic.
“It isn’t like it used to be in the city this time of year and shops doing things like this to get money is part of the problem.” Frank Holligan, 55, described it as ‘brazen consumerism’ and Michelle Holligan, 52, said it is ‘just silly’.
“It makes you think if they’re going to last until Easter if you buy them now,” Michelle added.
When questioned about why the eggs are on shelves so early, a spokesman for Poundland said: “Some stores have started to give a sneak peek into what’s coming in 2026, but they are also still stocked full of Christmas goodies too.
“To be honest, it’s never too early for a Creme Egg.”
